Tilman charges $100 per day for his services. Evalution normally takes from two to three weeks plus three or four follow-up visits, Masterson said.
Asked how the project would be funded, Superintendent William Bloomer answered that funds could come from either instructional or in-service training categories.
“I’d like to know more about this fellow,” ininterjected board member Paul Nichols.
“He’s been a teacher, an elementary principal, a county superintendent and state superintendent (in Minnesota),” Masterson responded. He emphasized that Tilman’s specialty was curriculum and primary instruction. ‘‘He’d work primarily with grades one through three,” Masterson said.
Masterson moved that the board ‘‘attempt to seek” Tilman’s services, explaining that the retiring dean might not be available. Before a vote, Nichols again attempted to find out more about the man, suggesting that Dr. Bloomer check Tilman’s experience in working with primary students and training elementary teachers.
Masterson explained that the wording of the motion, by stipulating that the board y would ‘‘seek to employ” Tilman, gave Bloomer the oppommily to prim —a4~. ditional information. The board voted four to one, with Nichols opposed, to endorse Masterson’s proposal.
Six-Year Plan
Following a special budget session for “public, input”, the school board reconvened its recessed February 20 meeting to adopt the six-year plan for county schools required by the state. In reference to statements of objectives included in the plan, board member Alan Stokes suggested changing several “will’s” to “should’s”, specifically in the area of special education.
