One school administrator liked the idea and allowed us to proceed with a GED prep class. The class we taught lasted approximately six weeks, but everyone taking the GED test passed. The pretext from which we taught was to know and fully understand, as opposed to remembering. The techniques we used worked and we have been having astounding passing rates for approximately two and a half years now.
I believe that teacher aides are needed in every basic education classroom. Most students require individual attention and that may prove too burdensome on a single teacher. The teacher aide concept should have been implemented and adhered to a long time ago. This would be a small price to pay for the continued existence of this country. For the same students who are rushed through school now without a full understanding of what the teacher is propagating will be in prison or attempting to solve the problems of this nation as engineers, doctors, scientists, teachers, and politicians.
