Hampton District supervisor Clarence Baldwin reported that he had yet to make up his mind or whether to be a candidate. “I decided at one time not to run,” said Baldwin, addin that he agreed to reconsider his candidacy at the request of a number of his constituents. “I will make an announcement in the next week or so,” Baldwin said.
Dick Latham, supervisor for Jackson District, said he was also undecided on seeking another term and would make an announcement on his candidacy by April 1.
To date, the race for Rappahannock County Sheriff has drawn three contestants. Incumbent W. A. Buntin will face challenges in November from former Sheriff John Walker Jenkins, who was defeated by Buntin in the 1975 elections, and Edward M. Corbin of Amissville.
In the contest for Commonwealth Attorney, incumbent George Davis will not seek reelection, leaving the field clear for a struggle between attorneys Douglas Baumgardner and Peter
p*ke, both of whom practice in the county.
