Categories that show major increases include textbook adoptions ($22,575), tuition at Piedmont Regional School for vocational and special education ($59,302), salaries for aides plus three additional aide positions ($39,231) and workshops and consultants ($7,000).
Bloomer said the three new teacher aides were required to meet state mandates for physical education, special education and duty-free lunches. In the category of text book adoptions, Bloomer explained that all the money would come back to the schools within three years through text book rental fees. He said rental charges would equal one-third of the cost of the books.
