Capital Outlay
For furniture and equipment under capital outlay, Bloomer recommended expenditures of $8,000 for gasoline tanks at the new school bus garage site, $4,665 for furniture and $7,300 for track equipment.
In both the basic and recommended budget, he allocated $48,750 for three modular units to relieve overcrowding at the high school.
“What is the life expectancy of a modular unit?” asked Newbill Miller.
“It depends on care and upkeep—somewhere in the neighborhood of eight to ten years,” Bloomer answered.
In one of the few budget categories to show a decrease, Bloomer noted that interest on literary loans owed by the school board had gone down from $20,650 to $19,887.
Board chairman Beverly Massie reported that the outstanding balance on literary loans for school construction was $669,300 with 20 payments still due on the elementary school, 19 due on one section of the high school and 12 due on another. Bloomer added that the loans were made for 30 years with one payment due each year.
