At the time the requirement had come from the State that all names of registered voters would be maintained in a single, alphabetical list. Prior to this, each precinct maintained four segregated listings containing the names of white and non-white eligible voters for general flections, and white, and nonwhite voters eligible to vote in presidential elections only.
