If signed into law, House Bill 599 will allocate $47,109 to Rappahannock, $201,558 to Fauquier, $170,571 to Culpeper, $94,600 to Madison and $117,945 to Orange. The total received in Planning District Nine will amount to $728,637.
The bill, however, also mandates the categories in which the money can be spent. In Rappahannock, $345 will go towards statelocal hospitalization for indigents; $10,707 for Commonwealth Attorney’s office; $4,411 for Circuit Court Judges and $31,725 for the Sheriffs Department.
Sponsored by Delegate Thomas J. Michie, HB 599 is part of a package of three bills designed to settle annexation issues between urban cities and counties and to correct funding inequities between core cities, urbanizing counties and rural counties.
