owned by James Lawrence Jr., raced home first for rider Wyatt Goshom by two lengths over Amanda Gillam (daughter of owner-rider Jeremy) on her Cinnamon Twist. Megan Goshorn on Hot Chocolate was third.
Only two horses started in the owner-rider hurdle race, but it was a good match.
Willie McCormick on Double Dog led by three lengths until the last of 11 manicured hurdles. At that point Arlo Fleet jumped up beside him, and Jeremy Gillam drove the gray gelding hard through the stretch to win by a length.
The owner-rider foxhunter race was another close one.
Leading to the downhill fence, Eva Dahlgren’s Flashback refused but regained the lead before the next fence and opened up 15 lengths across the mountainside the second time around.
Following the last fence the rest of the field caught up and a close battle ensued down the strech. At the wire less than half a length separated the three finishers.
Daphrie Laimbeer won on her Dean’s Sparky, with Eva Dahlgren second on Flashback. Michael Power, Warrenton huntsman, rode his Fast Bluff to third.
Most of the crowd stayed for the unique hound race, ninth on the card. Open to hound owners in Rappahannock Hunt territory or to members of the Northern Virginia Foxhunter Association, this race is closed to hounds from recognized hunt clubs.
