Nelson Burner, secretary of the Amissville club, told the supervisors that the Ruritans' main purpose is to promote fellowship and good will in the community. “We had tried before to find a safe place for children to play ball,” he said, adding that in past years, the club has supported the baseball program financially through contributions for insurance coats.
The Ruritans’ long range plans include construction of a building for club meetings on the site, a facility that will be available for use by the community, Burner said. The Ruritans also intend to hold other fund raising activities there, including their annual July 4th barbecue, a donkey ball game and possible a circus.
