MARY JAMIESON reported
that Manly J. Bruce’s fleet and flashy pony Partner was the star of the 1959 Point-to-Point. The black and white pony, ridden by 12-year-old Billy Dodson, won in the Young Entry race and the Colonel Richards Memorial and “received full mention in the Washington national papers.”
In the category of “inside dope”, Jamieson added, “None of the Washington papers knew that Partner is a grandson of the grand old Red, Man ofWar!!!”
C.B. Johnson of Woodville was named county chairman for the annual American Red Cross fund drive. District chairmen were: Milton Gore, Mrs. James M. Settle, Mrs. A.C. Latham, Gordon Thornhill, Mrs. John Walker Jenkins, Mrs. Harry Gallihugh and Mrs. Magdaline Dearing.
Spring fashions advertised that week included the Bobbie Brooks shirtwaist with striped sash “as seen in Seventeen” from the Royal Quality Shop in Front Royal for $9.95. Top of the line tapered toe spectator pumps from Weaver's in Front Royal were $13.95.
