5. Purchase flood insurance. Your homeowners oi business insurance policy will not protect you from flood loss. Flood insurance can be obtained through the Federal Insurance Administration’s National Flood Insurance Program. Contact your local insurance agent or broker for information about eligibility. There is normally a five-day waiting period for the policy to become effective.
6. Make an itemize list of personal property, including ftirniahings, clothing and valuables. Keep this list and your insurance policies in a secure location, such as a safe deposit box. Photograph your home inside and out. This will help verify losses when filing a flood claim. It will also prove helpflil should you have any other type of home insurance claim.
