The Lady Panthers had an easier time with their opponents, taking the edge from the beginning of their half of the competition and streching the advantage to a final 81-33. “The girls have that winning spirit. They give 100 percent and their hard work has put them on top by a wide margin in every meet,” Spieker noted.
They captured the top spot in 11 of 14 events and posted a sweep in the shot put with Donna Williams, Connie Compton and Wendy Stringfellow finishing onetwo-three.
1984’s “fast four” — Katheryn Davis, Shannon Watton, Annie 'Dipper and Raynetta Gheen in the 800 relay; Davis, Watton, Gheen and Kelly Bristol in the 400 relay; Denice Eidson, Ann Oliver, Tupper and Bristol in the mile relay — took * their almost automatic first places.
Wins in the field went to Marie Davis for discus throw with Donna Williams third in that event and Charlotte MacGee third in the high jump. Raynetta Gheen also took first in the long jump and Katheryn Davis second, clearing 15’3” and 14’5” respectively.
On the track, top finishers included Katheryn Davis in the 100 dash, Karen Ludwick in the mile and two mile, Annie Tupper in the 400, Ann Oliver in the 800 and Raynetta Gheen in the 200. Other points came from Kelly Bristol’s second and Anita DelGrosso’s third in the hurdles, Marie Roemer’s second in the two mile and third in the mile, Denice Eidson’s second in the 400 and Donna Atkins’ third in the 200.
