The draft budget for 1984-85 that accountant Wally Cox has presented to the Rappahannock supervisors shows a 12 percent increase over this year’s expenditures and calls for a 38 percent increase in the local tax rate.
The draft includes requests from all departments and agencies as submitted and totals $4,232,514, a jump of $557,155 over 198384. “ Based on an estimated $222,000,000 of assessed valuation of locally taxable real property, a tax rate of $.68 per $100 of assessed valuations will be required to meet contemplated expenditures after adding an estimated $4,937 to accumulated surplus,” Cox explained in the budget message accompanying the draft. He noted that the rate would stay the same if no additional fhnds are added to surplus.
The current levy is 42 cents per $100.
