The Welsh Choir

Of Cardiff

On April 23, the Cl peper Concert Associate presented a program of soi by the Welsh Choir of Ca diff, Wales. Rappahanno* citizens, including mat high school students, join< other members of the Co cert Association at Culpep< High School Auditorium i listen to the famous chor group, directed by Richai Elfyn Jones.

The first half of the pr gram consisted of mote and madrigals. From tl opening, Ascendit Deus, tl audience was caught in tl spell of bittersweet ha monies. Morley’s mad rigs Now is the Month of Ma; ing, was sung with a qui< force and lightness just rig] for this season of openir buds.

Next came a series British and Welsh fo songs, including Eli Jenkir Prayer from Under Mi Wood, by Welsh poet Dyb Thomas. The program co eluded with Ar hyd nos, f miliar as the evening hym All Through the Night, in hauntingly lovely arrang ment.

Much of the singing wi performed without instr mental accompaniment, fu ther demonstrating the sk of this choir, whose loudne: ranged from great res nance to almost a whispe without losing its intensit; It was wonderful to redi cover that power of blendir human voices.
