Former Rappahannock News staff writer Michele May has been named News Director at WKAV Radio in Charlottesville.

Previously WXAM, the station was recently bought by Mark Wilson, of Staunton, who has introduced a successful “Cavalier Country” format and plans heavy emphasis on local news. May will supervise the rest of the reporters and anchor drivetime morning news casts. She assumes these duties effective April 30.

May was previously news director at WWWKFM (K-180) in Warrenton and WCVA/WCUL in Culpeper. She studied journalism at Michigan State University before moving to Virginia in 1980 to work at the Culpeper radio station. She was staff writer for the Rappahannock News since last July. Besides her work in radio and newspapers, May is a successful magazine freelancer. One of her most recent articles “The Right to Know” appeared in the October issue of Police Product News.
