In the late 1950’s Realtors won tax deductions for moving expenses related to a job transfer. Likewise, Realtors promoted expansion of relief to the elderly in home sales. In 1962, those 66 and over could exempt the first $30,000 of their home sale from taxes. Today, the age has been lowered to 55 and the exemption has increased to $125,000.
