Again this year, the topic of conversation has been the wetness of the spring. As wet as this April has been, it still was not as wet as April 1983, when 9.39 inches of rain fell. Temperatures in the daytime averaged slightly warmer (1.7 degrees) and nighttime temperatures were just a little cooler (.5 degrees).
Plowed fields, gardens and greener pastures seem to be the order of the day. And, if Rappahannock’s appearance is an indicator, it appears to reflect great expectations: Bring on the crops! Farmers and gardeners will continue to watch the skies of May, which, like April, can spring a few weather surprises, too.
