Kind Is Shaping Up

Barring circumstances now totally unforseen, this fall’s race for the United States Senate will pit incumbent Republican John Warner of Atoka against Democratic former Del. Edythe Harrison of Norfolk.
Warner is unopposed for the GOP nomination. In spite of the Democratic leadership’s best efforts, it appears that no other candidate will emerge to challenge Harrison’s bid for the party’s nod at its state convention next month.
It isn’t as though the Democratic chieftains haven’t tried. Lord, how they've tried! Throughout the winter and early spring there were rumors of a new “mystery” candidate almost every week who was said to be about to throw his hat into the ring. None thus far has done so, and the Democratic leaders are now ruefully conceding that none is likely to come forward.
