Both Rappahannock track teams, the girls and the boys, ended the regular season this week undefeated in district competition. Their performances have to make RCHS the favorite in the Bull Run championships, this Thursday, May 3, at Clarke County High School in Berryville.
It was the first time that girls AND boys’ track teams finished a season without a single defeat.
The week started on Tuesday with a resounding victory over non-district foe, Page County. The boys’ crew took 11 of 16 events, sweeping the pole vault, mile, two mile, 400 and 800 and winning all the relays, to come out on top, 94-41. The Lady Panthers’ margin was even more one-sided as they bested the visitors, 8528, sweeping the shots and capturing 12 first places.
“Wendy Coffey and Charlotte McGee has reason to be happy,” reported coach Ann Spieker. “They tied for first in the high jump and met the goals we set for them, clearing 4’4”.”
