“Most are school children but the adult population is picking up. We’re getting about five new patients per week.
Hughes is assigned to Rappahannock for the 2V* years remaining on his active duty tour with the U. S. Public Health. It was through the efforts of the local Health Department and former RCES principal Mary Botts Quaintance that his services have been made available here.
“I’d like to thank Mrs. Quaintance for her influence in helping to establish this service to meet the needs of the people of Rappahannock,” Hughes added.
“There’s a real need for dental care in this county,” he noted. Recent examinations of elementary school children show that 67 percent need dental care or are already receiving it from some source. The figure is even higher for RCHS students in grades eight through 10—74.3 percent. Hughes had no statistics on the adult population.
