Sewing by satellite, ‘85
Sewing enthusiasts take note! On Nov. 2, a five-hour videoconference will bring you the latest, most innovative fashions, fabrics, notions, equipment and techniques in sewing today.
The telecast is the third in a series of successful and highly informative sewing videoconferences and will be viewed simultaneously at more than 40 sites in the U.S. and Canada, i.e., Washington D.C. and Roanoke.
The registration fee of $65 includes the Companion Workbook, a certificate of attendance and possible continuing education units. The event is co-sponsored by the American Home Sewing Association and the Clothing and Textile Specialists of the Cooperative Extension Service, U.S.D.A.

Concert season opens
Memberships in the Community Concert Association for the 198586 season are currently being mailed and should be received soon. The first concert in a series of four is scheduled for Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. in Culpeper County Higtt’School’s auditorium.
The Manhattan Rhythm Kings will get the season off to a sparkling start as the versatile trio presents a program called “An American Sampler” featuring the ragtime, jazz and swing music of 19001940.
Newcomers to the area who are interested in joining the Community Concert Association may call Mrs. W.H. Lyne at 987-8588 for further information. Attendance at the concerts is limited to Association members only. No tickets are sold at the door. Concerts are scheduled for Nov. 21, March 19 and April 1.
Antarctic slide show
The public is invited to take a slide/talk visit to Antarctica with Mr. and Mrs. Philip Brewer, of Madison, on Sept. 29 at 3 p.m. in the Culpeper United Methodist Church.
The slides were taken by Mr. Brewer when he made six trips to the Antarctic as a civil engineer. The program is sponsored by the members of the Culpeper Minutemen Chapter National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Refreshments will be served.
Donations received will go toward the NSDAR president general’s project, which is the restoration of the DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. •
Art show and sale
On Oct. 4,5 and 6, the Shenandoah Valley Artist Association will sponsor its Third Annual Art Show and Sale at Apple Blossom Mall in Winchester. About 30 artists from the Shenandoah Valley will participate.
