GM gives school $
Grafton School in Clarke County has received a $5,000 gift for its building fund drive from the General Motors Corp.
Robert Steig Jr., headmaster at the school for autistic and handicapped students, accepted the gift from Dick Nicholas, retiring manager of the Martinsburg, W.Va., plant and B. F. Sanders, the incoming manager.
The GM gift puts the fund-raising efforts for a new dining room and kitchen for the school over the halfway mark toward the $700,000 goal.
The loan, with an interest rate of 8.6 percent will be repaid over 40 years.
Grafton has 110 residential students and also admits day students.
