farm managed by her son Richard McNear, has been dated to 1749.
The current house, of Greek architectural revival, was built in the 1840s by Gideon Brown. The house is situated in a hollow that bears Brown’s name.
With the exception of the indoor kitchen, added during World War I, and two baths added by the McNears, the house remains as it was built.
Also open will be the Rush River House, the home of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Leggett. This contemporary house in Harris Hollow four miles northeast of Washington at the approach to Big Devil Stairs once served as a ski lodge.
It contains a tasteful collection of antique to modem furniture, paintings, lithographs and bric-a-brac.
