Burford busted for booze
WASHINGTON — Former Environmental Protection Agency chief Anne M. Burford was charged with public drunkenness after police said she cursed and yelled at authorities booking her husband on a drunken driving charge.
Mrs. Burford was arrested and detained four hours early Saturday at the Arlington County jail where her husband Robert Burford, a top Interior Department official, was being booked, said Sheriff James A. Gondles.
Sheriff Gondles, quoting reports by jail officials, said Sunday that Mrs. Burford was arrested after she allegedly yelled and cursed at a magistrate and desk clerk in the lobby.
