Registration is permanent. It need only be done once provided the voter’s legal and residential status remains unchanged. If, however, the individual fails to vote during four consecutive years, his or her name will be purged from the voting rolls, and reregistration will be necessary before voting again.
At bottom, all you need to do to register is to find the days your local registrar is open for business and provide the few required items of personal information. Admittedly the irregular schedules followed by some local registrars can create problems, but their hours of operation, and any other information about registering and voting can be obtained at no cost by calling the State Board of Election’s toll-free hot-line number, 1-800-552-9746.
There is one more thing which needs to be said about registering and doing your duty as a voter. Nobody can do it for you. Either you feel responsible for having a voice in the leadership of your government, or you don’t.
The bottom line is you can register and vote if you are legally qualified and want to do so.
