Class II prisoners demonstrate satisfactory initiative, conduct and performance and require moderate supervision. They can earn 20 days good time credit for every 30 days served.
Class III prisoners can earn 10 days credit for every 30 days served, and Class IV prisoners can not earn any good time credit. Class IV is reserved for prisoners who are isolated for disciplinary or security reasons.
“The regulations were passed over a period of many years, and it is very complex,” said Department of Corrections Public Information Officer Wayne Farrar. “The formula is applied using a computer now because it’s too complex for someone to figure out with a pad and pencil. ”
The combination of the basic parole schedule and good time earned results in the prisoner’s parole eligibility date, or the date the Parole Boani can consider granting parole.
