Persons convicted after July 1, 1981, are subject to the Good Conduct Allowance (GCA) statutes, which separate eamable good time credits into levels of behavior.
Persons convicted of crimes committed prior to July 1,1981 can elect to either earn credits under GCA or under the Good Conduct Time system that allows a maximum of 10 days good time credit for every 20 days served.
Class I of the GCA classification system allows prisoners to earn 30 days of good time credit for every 30 days served, the highest classification reserved for prisoners whose initiative, conduct and performance are deemed exemplary.
