Hiring policy ad
In a surprise move, the Fauquier Water and Sanitation Authority last Thursday adopted a policy requiring it to advertise all job openings before filling them.
State law doesn’t require the authority to advertise before hiring, but WSA board memeber Bonnie Downes (Scott District) said she believes the policy is needed so that the authority might avoid being “trapped” in any future “constroversy” regarding its employment practices.
Mrs. Downes said she was prompted to introduce the measure because an Aug. 29 Fauquier Democrat article reported WSA General Manager Steve Gordon recommended the board hire two fellow church members — Scott Rice and John Orr — as his assistants.
