Memorial Day is more than historical figures carved on mountains of stone. It is the memory of a nation with love s sacrifices etched in its soul. It is a day that reminds us we are part of a nation and system which declares that all persons are free Free to | speak, to believe, even not to believe.
From the Halls of Montezuma to the Shores of Tripoli; I from Bunker Hill to Kings Mountain; | from Bull Run to Gettysburg; from Pearl Harbor to Iwo Jima; 1 from Seoul to Heart-Break Ridge, on to Saigon,
our grandfathers, fathers, brothers, sisters, sons and daugh- * ters have fought, shed crimson blood, and died that this nation and its system of freedom, its promise of liberty, shall not pass from the land But Memorial Day is more than laying flowers on graves of the war dead and loved ones who died without intrusion of wars' horrors. It is growing within our souls the living flowers of life's loves, liberties, freedoms and achievements so that all , peoples shall know the beauty of life lived in peace The graves on which we lay flowers, the monuments we lean flowers against, are the soil that will enable the flowers of our lives to grow as we REMEMBER1
