Most of the celebrities send something. Hank Williams Jr. sent a book, Bette Davis sent a picture, the President usually sends a book of the White House, and Dolly Parton and Barbara Mandrell sent books. Some other items received were Wrangler knives and necklaces, a toy Big Foot truck, a big w’heel calendar, Knight Rider items, a tee shirt from Burt Reynolds’ dinner theater and a Sawyer Brown album.
Ms. Mills said, “Sometimes the stars sent two photos — one for the child and one for the auction. We had a couple to write back and ask us to write to try to keep their show on the air.”
