According to Eddy, “Before the heavy timber operations after the Civil War, native trout in this area would easily reach two or three feet. Huge pines and hemlocks would grow along the creek and the water was much cooler due to the shade. This would provide a perfect habitat for the natives.”
Herbert has good luck too but throws back what he catches. “I fish for sport. I don’t fish for meat although I’ll take one or two once in a while,” he said.
