Carson and Aileen Johnson are getting ready for their grand opening, slated for the Springfest this Memorial Day weekend in Sperryville.

The Johnsons are in the process of restoring what used to be the Old Star Grocery in Sperryville.

According to Mr. Johnson “in the ’30s and ’40s next to this building — where Faith Mountain is now —used to be a Dew-Drop Inn with rooms for boarding. On the other side of the old grocery was a drug store and next to that was the barber shop. Further on down there was a movie theatre that played Westerns on Saturday night.”

The Johnsons inherited the building from William and Mary Jefferson, Mrs. Johnson’s uncle and aunt.
