nominate their candidates for city offices, the State Senate, and the House of Delegates and to elect delegates to their state conventions. All elections are conducted in accordance with the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia. After city elections are held the newly chosen officers receive instruction on the proper procedures in organizing and conducting a city government and then proceed to govern their cities.
After the organization of the city governments and the two houses of the General Assembly, the Nationalist and Federalist parties hold their conventions, to which delegates have already been elected. Each party nominates candidates for the offices of Governor, Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General. After campaigns, which are often heate'd, elections are held and the successful candidates are installed in their respective offices in ceremonies similar to the rites held in the State Capitol at the inauguration of a Governor of Virginia. This inauguration ceremony is the climax of the Boys’ State week.
