To the editor:
The headline for the May 8 edition of your newspaper reads “$5 million budget would require tax hike.” I would like to offer a few comments on this cheerful forecast.
1. You note this county budget is up 10 percent over last year. But the rate of inflation in the U.S. is less than 5 percent, and no particular improvement in county services is mentioned in your report (except for assistance to the fire and rescue organizations) as a result of this increase in expenditures.
