2. With reference to a new position of county administrator, I recently attended a meeting of two citizens groups wherein those present seemed to favor this innovation. However, no one was sure what this new employee’s duties were to be, and at one point it was stated that the county administrator would be “85 percent zoning administrator.” We already have one of those, and he works two days a week. All I learned was that there as this determination to:
A) Have a county administrator.
B) Pay her/him $30,000 a year.
Indeed, the position is to cost us $50,000 a year, all told. No one present having much idea what this person would do, it was asserted that all Virginia counties but four have a county administrator. I can imagine that, in all Virginia counties but four, there are citizens who wonder, as I do, if all this is necessary.
