Site committee’s role
Explaining the committee’s part, Mr. Massie noted that it operated under guidelines established last fall by the board when the citizens’ group was appointed. The committee was to look for a minimum of 40 acres to buy or lease for a county-operated landfill, “and time was critical,” he said, noting that the permit for the existing privately owned and operated landfill would expire on July 1.
(Experience at that landfill on the Clark property near Woodville shows that 1/2 to 3/4 acre is required per year for disposal of the county’s trash.)
