“We’re not landfill experts or professionals,” the chairman emphasized. “We were just searching for possibilities,” he said. “Nobody wants a landfill in Rappahannock County. Nobody . . . But we’ve been ordered to have a landfill and to have it ready by July 1.” A solid waste disposal facility will affect more than just the people who live nearby, he said. “It will affect each citizen in every magisterial district. They’ll have to pa^ for the landfill with their taxes, so we need a site that is economically feasible AND environmentally safe,” Mr. Massie concluded.
