Two larger ponies came onto the field next to contest the miw» course. Tricia Dove on Sir Ivanhoe and Gus Brown on Down Homer ran as though for the gold, but the more spirited Sir Ivanhoe put 12 lengths between himself and his foe before the finish.
The juniors who entered horses numbered so many that they were split into two divisions. In the first division, fought over a mile, Northern Hill and Diana Gillam captured the early lead. Northern Hill had to be content with a close second, however, after fighting Grade Crossing, Sean Claney in the irons, in a neck and neck finish under the wire.
The second division of the junior horse race was a disappointment when a false start scattered the impatient and high spirited horses across the scenic Ben Venue Farm course, and tired too many of the contestants to stage a race. SUMMARIES:
