The author of the article which follows, “Educating for Character: An Opinion” is Dr. Terry Hammons, a member of the faculty of Antilles School, a private college preparatory school in St. Thomas, U. S. Virgin Islands. I served on the Board of T rustees of Antilles School for several years while living there and finally, before leaving St. Thomas, served as President of the Board.
Dr. Hammons completed his work for his doctorate in American History at the University of Oklahoma in 1978 and has been teaching history at Antilles School since 1981.
Having absolutely no interest in the politics and such of the educational bureaucracy, Dr. Hammons and his wife decided, instead, to devote their lives to their true profession — that of being a first-rate teacher at an extraordinary college preparatory school — and were welcomed
