Virginia’s 1987 spring gobbler season opened Saturday, and runs through Saturday, May 9. Legal hunting hours run from one half hour before sunrise until 11 a.m. each day. The spring bag limit is one bearded turkey per day. The yearly bag limit is two, per license year, with the count including gobblers taken during both the fall and spring season.
Since the mandatory blaze orange law does not go into effect until July 1, hunters should take special care to remember and practice shooting safety in the field.
One important point, according to the Virginia Game Commission, is to remember that although most turkey hunters will be dressed in full camouflage, some hunters may be wearing other clothing.
