Two accidents last week were caused by deer. On Friday, an accident on Rt. 522 near Huntly caused $400 damage to a 1974 Ford pickup driven by Darryl E. Windham Jr. of Front Royal. He was southbound on Rt. 522 when he struck and killed a deer.
On Tuesday morning, a tractortrailer operated by Samuel B. Leach Jr., of Mifflintown, Pa., was southbound on Rt. 522, also near Huntly, when three deer ran across the road. He applied his brakes, struck one deer and ran off the right side of the road.
Trooper Baines said that after going through a fence, the truck jackknifed in a field owned by Dr. Edwin Eastham. Mr. Leach was not injured, and no charges were filed.
