“Basically, the next step is the county’s,” said Harry Gregori after last Wednesday’s public hearing on a proposal to use 100 acres near Amissville as a county landfill.
According to the director of the Department of Waste Management’s policy division, that step would be a “move forward” on collecting additional technical information for submission to the landfill permitting agency for review.
The step came Monday night.
Followuig a long budget work session with the School Board, the county supervisors adjourned to an executive meeting on “acquisition of real property for public purposes.” Returning to open session 20 minutes later, they voted 3-1, with Supervisor A1 Henry in opposition, to authorize their administrative assistant John McCarthy to (1) arrange for aerial photographs to be taken of
the 100 acre Stover tract and (2) set up a meeting with the owners of the property to negotiate a sales price contingent upon the outcome of final geotechnic studies. (Supervisor Newbill Miller left before the vote was taken; illness caused his abrupt departure midway through the budget work session.)
