cher and veteran Fodderstack competitor, this year will run to raise money for a TV and VCR for the high school library. He said that the school is in need of the equipment to view the growing variety of educational material available on videotapes. The purchase of the equipment is a project of the Student Cooperative Association. Asked about the challenge of the course, Mr. Wingfield replied, “To enhance the knowledge of the students — I don’t mind hoofing six miles."

Perennial winner of the Eva L. Smith Memorial, Frank Reynolds, is facing stiff competition from several RCHS track stars. Marley Hay and Jonathan Watson are among the younger runners who have set their sights on Mr. Reynolds and the Smith award, given to the first Rappahannock man and woman to finish.
John Borgens, a local runner who is tuning for a marathon season this year, will run the Fodderstack as well — though the distance may seem more like a warm-up after his winter distance training.
Lowell Owsley of Jeffersonton, who has run every Fodderstack, will return once again for the spring rite.
One of Mr. Wingfield’s colleagues, marathon veteran Ann Spieker, will join him at the starting line.
