Founded in 1962 by entertainer Danny Thomas, St. Jude Children’s Hospital is the largest cancer research center in the woricl. Tt ri first and only institution established for the sole purpose of conducting basic and clinical research into catastrophic childhood diseases. A year after St. Jude’s was founded, only four percent of those children admitted with cancer survived; today the survival rate is 50 percent.
St. Jude’s is located in Memphis, Tenn., and operated primarily by funds from volunteer sources. Contributions to this Bike-A-Thon are tax deductible.
