public hearing
Henry Lee Carter, Seventh District Democratic chairman, has announced that the Seventh District Committee will hold a public hearing on the 1988 delegate selection plan Wednesday, May 6, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Monticello Hotel in Charlottes viUe.
The plan calls for a series of county and city caucuses throughout Virginia where Democratic voters will select delegates to congressional district conventions and the state Democratic convention. The conventions will select delegates and alternates to the Democratic National Convention which will be held in Atlanta July 18-21, 1988.
The plan is similar to the one used in 1984 with changes reflecting the requirements to the Democratic National Committee. In the Democratic caucuses to select delegates to the state convention, supporters of any presidential candidate must have at least 15 percent of the caucus participants to be awarded any delegates. This is a change from the 20 percent requirement in 1984. Caucuses may have uncommitted delegates. Uncommitted delegates also must have at least 15 percent of the total tq receive delegates.
