A state-wide series of half-day Alcohol Awareness Seminars designed specifically for off-premise sellers of alcoholic beverages will be held in 18 locations around Virginia during the week of May 11 through 15.
The seminars are being sponsored by the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, in cooperation with the Virginia Beer Wholesalers Association, the Virginia Food Dealers Association, Marketing Education Inc., and Southland Corporation.
“We feel that the time is right to hold these seminars for the benefit of our off-premise licensees,” said ABC Chairman J. David Shobe Jr. “The idea is to help develop the necessary skills that will enable sellers to deal with problem situations and understand what they can and cannot do regarding Virginia’s ABC laws and regulations.”
Each seminar will last four hours and be divided into three parts. The first part will provide information on current ABC laws and regulations and a segment concentrating on methods of recognizing false IDs.
The second segment will focus on Training for Intervention Procedures by Servers of Alcohol (TIPS). It will involve videotapes of potential troublesome situations and information on how to deal with problems which may arise while working at an establishment which sells alcohol.
