From its figures, the Bureau concluded, the growth shown throughout Virginia in 1986 continues, albeit at a slower rate. Job gains in service and the trades have, unfortunately, been somewhat offset by losses in durable goods and manufacturing categories in other areas of the state. That trend is likely to continue.
Those losses in manufacturing have not, however, been lost to the state. They appear, instead, to have relocated to different areas within the commonwealth. For the most part, however, the business outlook for Virginians in the immediate future appears to continue to be stable.
