As the nation prepares for National Organ/Tissue Donor Awareness Week, April 26-May 2, more than 250,000 Americans are estimated to be waiting for some type of transplant surgery; yet only 2,500 of them will actually receive the

needed organs. Key to this fact is that although surgical procedures are quite advanced, a critical shortage of organ and tissue donors remains in this country.
