Herb Guild to
hold plant sale
The Goose Creek Herb Guild announces its sixth annual Herb Plant Sale to be held on Friday, May 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Middleburg Community Center on U. S. Rt. 50 in Middleburg.
The Guild will have more than 2,000 plants for sale, including 150 varieties of herbs and flowering plants. Among the flowers will be a wide choice of everlastings which dry easily and keep well, ideal for dried flower arrangements.
In addition to everlasting flowers, there will be many flowering plants such as astilbe, blue salvia, coreopsis, foxglove and others which complement the herb garden.
More and more cooks are discovering the excitement of using herbs in the kitchen. Many culinary herbs such as dill, rosemary, sage, thyme and basil will be available in several varieties. If you think basil is just basil, you are in for a big surprise; there will be five or six varieties of basil.
This year, for the first time, a few choice old-fashioned roses will be offered for sale. Roses are considered to be herbs, and the advantage of the tried and true old-fashioned varieties is that they are disease and pest resistant which means less care, and more importantly, less chemicals required.
Another first this year will be an offering of a few special garden accessories such as small statuary. Also for sale will be some interesting clay containers including strawberry pots.
