Mrs. Salahi pointed out that many wine lovers are confused about the cheeses often served with wines. “Many people know Brie and Camembert are similar, but they don’t know how they are different,” she said. “And there is a difference between ’Swiss’ from America and Gruyere from Switzerland.” Platters of labeled cheese assortments for comparison tasting will be available along with the wines.
Bottled waters are rapidly gaining attention, but are just as confusing as the different kinds of coffees and cheeses, Mrs. Salahi contends. “People hear about Perrier and Evian and Saratoga waters and others,” she said, “but they are often puzzled over the differences.” Among the events at the Oasis Spring Fest will be a comparative tasting of bottled waters.
“Everybody has heard about the trendy Shiitaki mushrooms,” Mrs. Salahi said, “but many people don’t know what they are, what they look like or how they taste.” Shiitaki mushrooms, which are becoming a significant agricultural crop in Warren County surrounding the winery near Hume, will be offered at the festival.
Other events include hot air balloon rides, the Joe Heary Jazz Quartet and other music, the famed grape-stomping contest, a cork hunt, wine and poetry contest, aerial acrobatics and winery tours. Other food specialities available will include crepes and Polish sausage.
